It will just take a lot of time for them to return, and Gael would return as normal Gael, because we took from him the blood of dark soul. I think that they will return just like we will after each death. But, Friede is unkindled and Gael is undead. I will not talk about the painting itself. This way we bring eternal (or at least veeeery long) age of dark.Īnd lastly, the ending of DLCs. Flame slowly dies inside us unable to be rekindled (even if some powerful undead beat the player, flame can't be kindled there and it can't be taken back to kiln because only we have ability to move it). What's important is that it allows us to take the flame into us, after we have enough large dark sign. Or maybe they invented their own dark sign working differently. We are technically hollowed but the flame keep us sane. Yoel is basically reminding us of our dark sign, bringing our strength from our times as undeads. Ashen ones are protected from the hollowing and dark sign by the flame. Basically fire must die in a place far from the kiln because this is the only place it can be rekindled or be reborn. Either by himself or with cooperation with Aldia and BoC he forms a plan. Kaathe learned that just allowing flame to die doesn't work. Again, first two endings doesn't matter and I think the third one is canon here. In ds2 we have the exact same choice but with additional option to walk away with Aldia. If we link, then it's linked, if not, somehow it would be (either because time is convoluted and other undead link it or first flame is reborn of the ashes like in end of fire ending). Basically, we usurp the fire to not make a new age but to bring eternal age of dark. This is mostly inspired by a comment I have found somewhere here on this sub. Thirdly, there is the ending with Londor. When the fire died, we died with it because there was nothing to keep us alive. It gived us energy to live, and basically linked us to the fire. So first flame was the thing that gave us life again. After dying trying to kindle the fire for the first time, we were resurrected as the ashen one, the champion of FIRE. Here I have a theory why the firekeeper asks if we are there. But what if in fact we are so, so ridiculously powerful after absorbing four lord of cinder (whom I guess already have insane amount of souls because they were able to link the fire, Aldritch have eaten a lot of humans and Gwyndolin, Abyss Watchers have crushed kingdoms and killed a ton of abyssal beings, Princes were strong because Lorian were able to defeat Demon Prince and Lothric was groomed to be kindling, Yhorm was a giant warrior.], Gael who have collected pretty much every single little part of dark soul, Friede who summoned snow to the whole painted world (together with Father Ariandel but still), bunch of other bosses and legions of hollows that fire couldn't burn us that fast, we have becomed a kindling that will bring a very, very long age of fire? So, firstly, I saw that the general consensus is that if we choose to link the fire, the fire is too weak to be linked/is so weak that this would be the last time because there is no fiery explosion or anything. So basically this post is just my thoughts and ideas about endings of ds3.
